OUR STORY
“SEAFOOD. DRINKS. OUTSIDE. ON THE WATER.”
A PORTSMOUTH LANDMARK
Before the turn of the century, when ferryboats served as public transportation connecting New Hampshire and Maine, a ferryboat terminal was built on the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth. After bridges were erected, a terminal was no longer needed, so the building was adapted for different functions over the years, including a soft drink bottling facility, a lobster pound, and a gift shop.
In 1973, Dick Blalock purchased the property and converted it into a waterfront restaurant, opening on June 10, 1975 as Old Ferry Landing, an homage to the rich history of the building. In fact, you’ll still see the original wood beams that support the roof and capture the character and strength of the 19th century structure.
Dick Blalock eventually passed down Old Ferry Landing to his son, Jack, who has since turned over control to his daughter, Jackie Jensen. Jackie had worked at the restaurant every summer since she was about 8 years old. Now a local high school teacher, Jackie is thrilled to continue a proud family tradition running a seasonal restaurant.
Today, Old Ferry Landing is woven into the fabric of Portsmouth, serving up classic New England dishes like lobster in the rough, 100% fresh lobster rolls, and different types of broiled, fried, and grilled seafood. While many customers have been dining with us since the 1970s, we’ve welcomed new generations of local residents who are drawn to the fresh outdoor vibe and waterfront views that never get old.
The Old Ferry Landing family looks forward to seeing you for dining and drinks on the water!
